The Role of Acute Care Nurses in Building a Culture of Health

Susan Hassmiller photoSusan B. Hassmiller

Susan B. Hassmiller, the senior adviser for nursing at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will discuss how nurses working in the acute care setting can build a Culture of Health by enabling all people to live healthier lives and to experience greater well-being. She will discuss how progress made in advancing the recommendations from the landmark Institute of Medicine report, The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, is enabling more nurses to take on leadership roles in building a Culture of Health. She will also explain how nurse executives can take advantage of a hospital’s community benefits program; work with patients and families to ensure an optimal care experience and decrease errors; and start to address during hospital admissions some of the social determinants of health that affect patients.
